Brookwood Military Cemetery

Brookwood Military Cemetery lies near Woking, in the North-West corner of Surrey, 30 miles by road from London (M3 to Bagshot and then A322), and there is a direct train service from Waterloo to Brookwood Station, from which there is an entrance to the cemetery.

Brookwood Military Cemetery is owned by the Commission and is the largest Commonwealth war cemetery in the United Kingdom, covering approximately 37 acres. In 1917 was Brookwood Military Cemetery used for the burial of men and women of the forces of the Commonwealth and Americans, who had died, many of battle wounds, in the London district. This site was further extended to accommodate the Commonwealth casualties of the Second World War, and American, Belgian, Czech, Dutch, French and Polish plots containing the graves of casualties of our Allies. There are also German and Italian plots where prisoners of war were buried. At the southern end of the Canadian section stands the Brookwood Memorial, commemorating 3,500 men and women of the Land Forces of the Commonwealth who died in many lands, or at sea, and have no known grave.

If you enter the military part of Brookwood Cemetery, the Czechoslovak section lies on the left side and is the second one, behind the Polish section. There are buried nearly 100 Czechoslovak airmen, members of Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died in the Second World War. More information and photos can be found on cooperative website FCAFA.

There are burried Czechoslovak RAF veterans in the front of entrance of military section of Brookwood Military Cemetery. These men died after the end of war when they already were not active members of RAF.

Czechoslovak Section

There are burried altogether 48 Czechoslovak airmen, members of Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died since 1940 to 1945:

- 45 airmen are burried in Czechoslovak section
- 3 airmen are burried in British section
